Book Club

The CRCC Book Club is a monthly get together for all like-minded book lovers to meet and discuss books, short stories, poems and films. Members donate what they wish each month to help support our work with local women and girls impacted by sexual violence.

The books are chosen by the group itself, so you can expect many feminist titles and female authors!

How it works

The CRCC Book Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month via Zoom.

The book to be discussed will be agreed in advance amongst the Club members

The CRCC Book Club operates on a Pay-As-You-Feel basis. This means you donate what you want to each month. The average monthly amounts are between £3-£5 but you only donate what you want. If you’re not in a position to donate, you are still very welcome to attend.

You can pay your subscription as you go along or set up a regular payment, whichever works best for you.

How to join us

To join the CRCC Book Club, please register (via EventBrite) below. You will need to do this for each month’s meeting.

Select the number of attendees (one per screen) and if you would like to make a donation, then click on ‘Checkout’ to go through the registration process.

Once you have completed the registration process, you will receive an email confirmation with the Zoom link for the meeting.

Please be aware that the Book Club doesn’t provide the chosen book/film/poem, you will need to purchase it.

The meeting on Tuesday 13 September 2022 will be discussing: ‘Detransition, Baby’ by Torrey Peters.

The meeting on Tuesday 11 October 2022 will be discussing: ‘No-One Is Talking About This’ by Patricia Lockwood.

The meeting on Tuesday 8 November 2022 will be discussing: ‘We Need to Talk About Money’ by Otegha Uwagba.

Members of the Book Club are naturally interested in and choose to read books about feminism, which often address sexual violence and engage with difficult themes.

Whilst the members feel it’s important to discuss difficult topics, we try to strike a balance between our interest in feminist texts and continuing to provide a supportive space for members.

Therefore we try to highlight any potential triggers or distressing topics in the book for each month, both on the website and in prior meetings. We are also mindful of the types of books we choose, so that we alternate the sort of content we read.

Whilst we love to see you each month, no-one has to attend all meetings. Read only the books you want and feel comfortable doing so.
